Questions for the Hikers, Volume 1

Some of you have e-mailed us with questions, so we will take some time to answer those now: (these are real questions, however doubtful it may seem.)

Question for the Hikers: "Aren't you afraid to move the rattlesnakes with your hands?"
(this question is referencing events on Day 2)

Answer: I didn't mean to leave anyone with the impression that we moved the snakes off the trail with our hands, although it does make us sound very brave, which I like). We carry hiking poles which were used to complete the task. I'm sure this is disappointing. By the way when we use a male pronoun to refer to a snake it is simply for the sake of convenience, we in no way want to leave the impression that we are harassing the local wildlife by inspecting their undersides.

Question for the Hikers: (this is a popular one) "Do you and Scott have a murder/suicide pact like the two guys who got lost hiking in the New Mexican desert?

Answer:No, although the idea has merit. I personally think that we should develop a pact with a bit more flexibility so that you don't have to wait until death is imminent before taking action.

Question for the Hikers: "Did you ever think that hiking with your husband for 8 weeks IS your anniversary present?"

Answer: One more question like that and I'm going to knock your head against a wall when I get back.

Question for the Hikers: "Can you receive email from me now that you are on the trail? So and So (name omitted) said it isn't possible."

Answer: I'm surprised that you of all people put any stock at all in what So and So says. You should know better. Of course you can reach us. See below for more details.

Question for the Hikers: "I borrowed your power sprayer and it doesn't seem to work once I got it home. (likely story) Just a thin trickle of water comes out. What the heck?" (Is this person interested in our hike or just pilfering items from our home while we are away...hmmm...)

Answer: From your description, it seems that you have all the pieces. We are puzzled. Does anyone else know what could be the matter?

If you have a question for the hikers, please email us at xxxxxx@pocketmail.com. Important: We can only receive messages of 4000 characters so your message may get cut off. P.S. Don't hit "reply" because then we end up downloading some of our message as well, which takes longer.

Identities of the askers will not be revealed.
