Day 7 Continued

Why not reuse this
picture too since he
does this every day?

Well, we didn't leave Warner Springs until noon and set out in the heat of the day. We trudged up a canyon in 106-degree heat and took refuge by the side of a shady creek. We stayed for a couple of hours and then continued on.

Just as we got into the rhythm of the hike, we had an unfortunate encounter with a batch of poison oak and stopped to take a Tecnu bath. "What's a Tecnu bath?" You ask. Well, it doesn't involve me getting naked, I'm sure you will be relieved to know. Tecnu is a lotion that you rub on yourself which neutralizes the effects of poison oak. Then you rinse it off with water and it leaves you with a pleasant sticky feeling. Just the capper for a long day in the woods. Scott shared his thoughts about the poison oak: (%$?@#&!!) and (##@!&%?) Then, as we marched along, I heard what has to be one of the sweet sounds on earth: frying bacon. My mouth began to water and as I was engrossed in a fantasy involving me in an intimate moment with a BLT, I was rudely shaken from my reverie by a large rattler on a narrow section of trail--about as far from a bacon sandwich experience as you can get. Luckily, he was up on a slope, which allowed us room to squeeze by.

After filling up at Lost Valley Spring, we camped right on the trail and slept well.
