A Day in the Mountains: Horse Meadow to just beyond Pioneer Mail Trailhead

Hey baby...going my way?
Kicking back at Mt. Laguna P.O.

A view of the trail on the way to
Mt. Laguna Campground.

Scott gets a history lesson.

We arrived at the Mt. Laguna post office that morning and picked up our first resupply box. We sat down and sorted out all of our item on the ground next to the post office. Then we proceeded to the store and drank as much juice as we could before departing. I never knew juice could taste so good. We headed back to the trail and soon were at the Laguna Campground where we had a shower and ate lunch and relaxed. Later, we continued on, replenished our water at Pioneer Mail Trailhead, and camped on an old dirt road right on the canyon rim with a spectacular view east into the Anza Borego State Park. Oriflamme Mountain looked beautiful in the fading light and conditions were perfect for a good night’s sleep.

It has only been 3 days, but it seems like we’ve been out here forever.
